It's good to have a supply of shelf-stable food available that does not require electricity to prepare. Fortunately, the US Military has figured that one out, with "MRE" rations. (MRE means "Meal, Ready to Eat")
These meals provide enough calories and nutrition for an active person and do not require additional cooking. MRE Heater packets are available to warm the food using any available water (no drinking water needed, rainwater is fine).
MRE's are pre-cooked and storage-stable, so you can buy them for this season and still have them on hand the next few years if you aren't forced to use them.
