Hurricane Protection
It's important to try to protect your home against hurricane damage. Chances are, your house is your most expensive personal investment and of course you want to minimize any damage caused by tropical storms and hurricanes.
Hurricanes and Tropical Storms can damage your home in several ways:
- Water Damage
-
Water damage can come from heavy rains, flooding, and storm surge. If your roof, windows, or doors fail then water can intrude on your home. Secondary effects of water damage after the storm has passed might also include things like mold growth which may make your home uninhabitable.
- Wind Damage
-
Tropical systems can pack a mean punch when it comes to wind, and even if your home is structurally sound it can still be damaged by heavy winds and flying debris. Trees may fall and damage your structure or other properties. Windows can be broken and allow wind and water to enter, or facilitate roof failure.
- Infrastructure Failure
-
After a storm passes: electricity, water, sewer, and basic emergency services may not be available or be stretched to the breaking point. Civil unrest or uncontrolled fires may cause further damage or make your home unlivable.
